Eugene Ely taking off from USS Pennsylvania. Eugene B. Ely's Curtiss pusher biplane taking off from a platform on the deck of USS Pennsylvania to return to land. Earlier in the day Ely landed the plane on the ship's deck, the first time an aeroplane had landed on a warship. Photographed at anchor in San Francisco Bay, California, USA, on 18th January 1911.
